13 Comfortable Body Pillow Reviews 2024

Best of the best Moonlight Slumber – Comfort U Total Body Support Pillow
5/5

One of the first things we noticed after taking this one out of the box is it just looks so cuddly. Thankfully, comfort is not the only positives of this body pillow, as it provides a range of support for your body during sleep.

During testing, we realized first and foremost that the pillow was very fluffy. The internal filler is a premium synthetic down, which gives the pillow its shape and provides comfort and resists dust mites, allergens, and other sleep inhibitors.

The manufacturers actually promote this body pillow to be manipulated for other uses, and indeed remained extremely comfortable napping on the couch, or propped up for reading a book. The internal filler never clumped together while manipulating the pillow, meaning all round comfort and shape remained.

In fact, during testing, we found the pillow didn't tend to lose its shape much at all. We didn't really have to fluff the pillow nearly as much as other body pillows.

It sports a conventional ‘U' shape and provides great support for your back, hips, neck, head, and joints.

Specifications

  • Cotton construction
  • 10 pounds
  • 60 x 7 x 35 inches
  • Synthetic down filler
  • Large size and kids size available
pros

    Very comfortable and soft

    Very easy to manipulate

    Keeps shape after many uses

    Provides all round support

cons

Might be too big for the bed

Snuggle-Pedic Ultra-Luxury Bamboo Combination Shredded Memory Foam Full Body Pillow
4.5/5

Memory foam is all the rage when it comes to pillows, and this is no exception with body pillows. The Snuggle-Pedic Ultra-Luxury is a firm, straight length body pillow. It has a unique blend of materials in its make-up – 43% viscose of bamboo, 56.4% polyester, and 0.6% lycra.

While the numbers don't mean much, Snuggle-Pedic boasts that the materials lead to a much cooler sleep. We found in testing, this was certainly the case.

The exterior is micro-vented, and we were surprised at the breathability of the pillow. While perhaps not an option for those looking for back support, this definitely met the comfort requirements.

The pillow is also hypoallergenic and dust mite resistant, and combined with the fact that it is not a feather or standard down pillow it is a great option for those with allergies.

The pillow itself doesn't come with a cover, however, they can be purchased. The whole pillow is actually machine washable, which makes it handy for cleaning.

In testing, the first thing we noticed was that compared to many standard memory foam pillows, it is not as hard or firm as many. However, after a few nights of sleep we found it to contour perfectly as we slept.

Specifications

  • 43% viscose of bamboo, 56.4% polyester, and 0.6% lycra
  • Breathable ‘Kool-Flow’ technology

Total Body Pillow with Adjustable Shredded Memory Foam
4.5/5

This body pillow is another memory foam variant, with a straight shape body and adjustable shape. Much like other memory foam body pillows, this one boasts many of the same features and qualities.

It is hypoallergenic and dust mite resistant and completely machine washable. It doesn't come with a cover, however. The breakdown of the outer layer is 40% viscose of bamboo and 60% polyester.

Due to this, it remains very cool during the night. During testing we found it to be nice and firm, but again still remains relatively plush to ensure you don’t feel like you are sleeping on bricks.

After a few nights of sleep, we found that it contoured very easily to our body shapes, especially with the adjustable, moveable foam pieces in the pillow itself.

Very comfortable overall, and can be great for those who are pregnant or want something to cuddle in bed.

Much like many straight length body pillows, however, it may not be as useful to those who are needing front and back support.

Specifications

  • Memory Foam
  • Hypoallergenic and dust mite resistant
  • Machine washable
  • 50% viscose of bamboo and 60% polyester
  • 75 pounds
  • 17 x 12 x 8 inches
pros

Best for the money Leachco Back ‘N’ Belly Contoured Body Pillow
4/5

This Leachco Body Pillow is a back and belly special contoured body pillow, providing equal support for back and belly at the same time.

Unlike a more universal body pillow, this contoured body pillow is shaped to fit for this particular use and is very well designed for those with back and neck problems. It is also great for pregnant women, with strong support for the tummy and baby bump.

A universal body pillow may often require you to ‘flip’ the pillow should you turn and face the other way while sleeping, the Back ‘N’ Belly’s almost symmetrical design will allow you to turn and use each half of the pillow the same way.

After a few uses, we found the pillow to be very comfortable, providing great hip support and back support. The material is polyester, which can warm up quite a bit on a warm day compared to cotton, however, it was still comfortable and remained quite puffy.

The two sides of the pillow were quite firm and remained firm throughout our tests. The ‘U’ bend in the pillow was slightly softer, giving us a nice ‘cloud-like’ support for our head during sleep.

The inside of the pillow has an hour-glass shaped curve, providing a contoured fit for tummy and back, and we found it to be a nice snug fit.

Specifications

  • Polyester Construction.
  • Contoured fit
  • Symmetrical shape with hour-glass inner curves
  • 04 pounds
  • 51 x 33.5 x 8.8 inches
pros

    Contoured fit

Symmetrical – no need to flip pillow when turning over

    Comfortable and snug

    Replaceable and washable cover

cons

Polyester warms up in warmer weather

Not universal and more specific for pregnant or those with back pains

PharMeDoc Full Body Pregnancy Pillow
4/5

Shaped like a ‘C', the PharMeDoc is a body pillow tailored and designed for pregnancy. They boast all-round support for your back, hips, knees, neck, and head.

Due to the shape of the pillow, the biggest immediate benefit of this pillow is for those who often lack proper support when laying on their side. It provides all-round comfort, with a soft backrest, an arm to cuddle and hold while providing support to the head and neck. It also has great support for the baby bump.

While tailored for pregnancy, this pillow’s shape also provides relief for those suffering from hip and back pain. In testing we found it to be very comfortable, and contoured to sleeping on the left side. It is particularly comfortable and helps with sleep for those who have poor posture or recovering from an injury.

In testing we found the pillow to be quite firm, almost to the standard of a memory foam pillow. It kept its shape after a few uses. Having said that, you must fluff the pillow every so often as you would a normal pillow to get maximum performance.

The outer cover is removable and washable, making it easy to clean. It is also hypoallergenic, allowing you to sleep without having a restless, allergy filled night.

Specifications

  • Lifetime warranty
  • 7 pounds
  • 8 x 11.4 x 5.9 inches
  • Washable cover
  • C Shaped pillow
pros

    Provides great all-round comfort

Remains firm after a few uses

    Provides great all-round support

While tailored for pregnancy, it is still applicable to those with back and neck pains

cons

May be too firm for those who prefer a softer pillow

J Shaped Premium Contoured Pregnancy/Maternity Body Pillow
4/5

While it’s called a ‘J-Shaped’ body pillow, this offering is more like a lower-case ‘g’ shaped pillow. Designed for pregnancy, this body pillow allows overall support from the back, to neck, hips, and baby bump.

The most immediately noticeable feature of this pillow on our first inspection was the zipped Sherpa cover material, which provided a nice, soft external feel upon testing. The polyester pillow internally can be quite firm and harder than others, the Sherpa cover certainly softened the blow.

The shape, while not a conventional J shape, wraps around you providing a very snug and comfortable sleep. Many users liken it to a bit of a ‘nest' feel and provides great overall support for your back and baby bump during pregnancy.

The pillow is machine washable, which is a big plus considering many can only be washed by hand. There is also a money back guarantee, another plus and a big show of confidence from the manufacturers. From what we've seen, however, you'll likely not need to take them up on their offer.

Specifications

  • 6 pounds
  • 60 x 27 x 7 inches
  • Unique shaped ‘J’ shape pillow
  • Polyester Construction
  • Sherpa Zipped Cover
  • Machine washable
pros

    Lighter than most competitors

    Comfortable shape for pregnancy

    Sherpa cover is very comfortable

    Machine washable

cons

Polyester construction can get hot in warmer temperatures

U Shaped-Premium Contoured Body Pregnancy Maternity Pillow
3.5/5

Another ‘U' Shaped Pregnancy body pillow, this is a larger offering than most other pregnancy pillows available on our list.

Made out of polyester, this body pillow is a large, comfortable pillow. Much like other ‘U' shaped body pillows, it has contoured legs allowing for a comfortable sleep. It provides support to the back, hips, neck, and head.

The body pillow has a removable zippered pillowcase, making it easier to clean. Being a polyester construction, however, in testing we found it to heat up a fair bit during sleep.

The pillow, however, is rather soft and comfortable and does keep its shape well. While it does have a larger surface area, we'd only wish it was a little bit thicker, just for extra comfort.

Specifications

  • Polyester construction
  • 69 pounds
  • 60 x 35 x 7 inches
  • Large surface area
  • Removable and washable pillowcase
pros

More to hold during sleep with larger surface area

    Removable and washable pillowcase

Contoured for support and comfort during sleep

cons

Could be a little bit thicker

Polyester can heat up in warmer weather

Leachco All Nighter – Total Body Pillow
4.5/5

The Leachco All Nighter is a great total body pillow, with a ‘candy-cane’ shape. It’s a very versatile pillow, with a number of different positioning options to use, giving you all-round comfort to suit your needs.

In testing, we found the pillow to be very plush and soft, and easy to manipulate to meet our desired comfort. The outer layer is a polyester and cotton mix, and very soft and comfortable.

Leachco boasts a removable and washable cover. We liked the ease of cleaning, and simple instructions provided to ensure the pillow stayed nice and comfortable after a number of uses.

The pillow allows you to sleep easily in a partial fetal position, one of the better positions for those who have back or neck problems. We found after a few uses, despite not being a foam construction the pillow did conform to our sleeping positions and provided good support in all areas.

The universal design boasts great support for those during pregnancy, allowing it to be a multi-use pillow you can use before, during, and after pregnancy.

With a removable cover, Leachco also allows you to buy replacement covers, giving you great longevity with your All Nighter Pillow.

    Universal Design

    Comfortable contoured shape

cons

Soft plush filler can lose shape over time

Today’s Mom Cozy Comfort Pregnancy Pillow
3.5/5

Next up is this big offering from Today’s Mom – the Cozy Comfort Pregnancy Pillow. This body pillow is a much larger offering, again targeted at pregnant mothers offering all-round support and comfort.

Almost immediately, the first thing we realized in testing this pillow is the way it cradles your whole body, keeping you in a constant state of comfort.

Much like other body pillows of the same U shape, the Cozy Comfort Pregnancy pillow is contoured on its inside, giving great support for back and belly.

Another feature we liked was the shoulder support. The curve shape should support design helps provide a very nice, soft sleep. Like many others, this body pillow has a removable, washable cover. Making it easy to clean and to use long term.

While this may be a matter of preference, this pillow was overly soft. It isn’t overly firm like many other offerings, which may be great for some but not for those who require strong support during sleep.

Specifications

  • 10 Pounds
  • 56 x 9 x 32 inches
  • U shaped pillow
  • Removable and machine washable cover
  • 50/50 polyester and cotton blend

    Contoured shape

    Strong shoulder support

cons

Overly soft plushness may not be everyone’s cup of tea.

QUEEN ROSE Full Pregnancy Body Pillow
3.5/5

The Queen Rose Full Pregnancy Body Pillow is a ‘U' shaped pure cotton body pillow. This pillow, again another option tailored toward pregnancy, provides all-round support for back, neck, hips, and the baby bump.

It has a cradling effect, making it very comfortable, and in testing, we found it provided a very all-round level of comfort. Made from 100% cotton, the filling is a bionic polyethylene filling, which provided great comfort in testing and retained shape quite well.

The pillow is rather soft, meaning it is easily manipulatable to suit your sleep and shape. We did, however, find in testing that it may be too soft for those who prefer a firm pillow, however, this does come down to your personal preference.

Much like most modern body pillows, the cover is removable and machine washable. It is easy to remove with a zippered cover.

Specifications

  • 100% cotton
  • 14 pounds

Not just for comfort, however, this option from Leachco provides all-round support to your back, neck, head, baby bump, and hips. Its ‘C' shape features all round comfort and support and remained evenly shaped after a few uses in testing.

The pillow doesn't generate too much heat and remains relatively cool throughout the night. It is a polyester and cotton blend and has a removable cover making it easy to clean and wash. The pillow itself isn't machine washable, however, the cover is.

One of the few drawbacks is the cover does not have a zipper, and is harder to remove without damaging it. Having said that, the pillow itself is of great quality, comfortable and provides great all-round support.

Specifications

  • Cotton and polyester blend
  • 5 pounds
  • 60 x 24.8 x 7.2 inches

Why would I need one?

A full body pillow is in most cases a sleep aid, and depending on the different features in your pillow of choice, can serve a number of functions from comfort to curing insomnia, pregnancy, and many other common sleep depriving conditions.

According to Insomnia.net, a body pillow can help relieve leg, hip, shoulder, and spinal strain. It can allow you to sleep in a more therapeutic position, provide additional support to your neck, and allow your muscles to completely relax during sleep. Increasing circulation.

I sleep okay, so why need a body pillow?

Most people believe they sleep quite well already, however, most people are really not getting a full night’s sleep.

What’s the difference between pillows?

A common mistake people make with pillows is thinking they are all exactly the same. This applies also to standard pillows you have on your bed. There are a range of different features and designs that will affect your sleeping in different ways.

The shape of the pillow can be a big determining factor in comfort and the medical benefits. There are some shapes such as long body length shapes, that provide comfort more than anything while also keeping you from sleeping on your back. This reduces strain across your body, but will mainly reduce snoring as you are not lying on your back.

There are C-shaped and candy-cane shaped pillows, that provide much more support for your body all over. Depending on your usage, these may be more applicable, providing more strain reduction, and all-round comfort.

Many body pillows come with hypoallergenic fill and covers. Seeing as your nose and mouth will often be close to the pillows in question, this is an important feature to prevent allergies during the night allowing you to have a better night sleep.

There are a range of different fillers in different body pillows, natural down or feathers, buckwheat, organic fiber-fills, and synthetic fiber fills. The difference here can often be rather personal, some preferring certain fillers as they can determine the firmness or softness of the pillow.

For those needing a sturdier pillow, traditional or memory foam body pillows are also available. While often being more expensive, a good foam pillow will contour to your body over time, giving you a more consistent and comfortable sleep.

There are some body pillows that also feature additional sleep aids such as aromatic herbs. While more of a luxury option, these features can also aid your sleep if you find falling asleep particularly troublesome.

For more luxury options, there are heated and massage body pillows in the marketplace as well. While more for the comfort side of things, if you are after the Porsche of body-pillows have a look out for these.

Pregnant? The maternity body pillows are for you.

Pregnant women are often instructed to consider a maternity body pillow during pregnancy, and there are a variety of benefits for using one.

During pregnancy, many women find it hard to fall asleep, due to the number of changes happening in their bodies, and of course the growing bump.

The benefits of the body pillow for pregnant women include preventing back and neck pain and provide support for the baby bump, shoulders, and legs.

It even has a use after pregnancy! Our friends at fustany.com tell us that the full body pillow is great for using it as support for the baby while nursing or a barrier to prevent them from rolling over!

Frequently asked questions

Can I wash the pillow in the washing machine?

It really does depend on the pillow itself. Some pillows come with a case that is machine washable. The actual pillow itself may not be. In some cases, the pillow is actually washable, but be sure to check the instructions to ensure you aren’t washing one you aren’t meant to!

Can I use the pregnancy pillow if I’m not pregnant?

Of course! Some mothers continue to use their body pillow long after they’ve had their child. The benefits are still applicable--comfort, support, and ease to back, neck, and other pains.
