General shopping guide

The JBLGTO939 Premium comes as a set of speakers weighing 8-pounds and measuring 11.8 x 5.9 x 17.2 inches. It features a rather large carbon-injected Plus One cone which helps to clarify the bass by causing more air to vibrate. This system is coupled with some soft-dome tweeters that bear oversized coils allowing them to handle smooth highs without any fatigue. The coils make these speakers dissipate heat more efficiently. It also features high-quality cross-over components that deliver the right frequencies to the right speakers.

Features

  • Carbon-injected Plus One cones
  • High power handling at 200 Watts RMS and 300 Watts peak
  • Soft-dome tweeters with oversized voice coils
  • Low-impedance, three-ohm speakers
  • Dedicated 12dB/octave, high-quality crossover components

The three-ohm speakers have low impedance at three ohms which compensates for the undersized wires common to many cars. The JBL Premium utilizes every watt your car stereo can offer to produce quality sound with incredible depth and realism. The highs are crisp and not fatiguing while the mid-range is natural and easy on the ear.

For a speaker of its size, the bass is huge and if you don’t like attracting unfavorable attention, you might have to tone it down. The total power input per speaker is 200 Watts RMS and 300 Watts peak, which is enough to push the speakers smoothly.

At really high volumes, however, you might start to lose some clarity since the mids tend to get too high even after adjusting the high pass filters on the amplifier and the head unit. Also, we found that installing the grills was not easy and you might need help to make some modifications for the set to fit. Lastly, we thought the plastic support arms that provide structural support for the speaker looks like it could break if it takes enough hits. So be sure to install it in a compact position.
